Privacy policy

Last updated: 14 September 2026

This page explains what happens to your email address when you subscribe to The Weekly Save, and what little else we know about you when you visit this site.

The short version: we keep your address and the date you signed up, we use it to send one email on Thursdays, we stop the moment you ask, and we never sell or share it. The longer version follows.

Who we are

AloSave is a two-editor value desk in Porto, Portugal. Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), AloSave is the controller of the data described on this page. You can reach us at contact@alosave.com or by post at:

AloSave
Rua de Cedofeita 256, 2.º
4050-174 Porto, Portugal

What we collect

When you subscribe, we record three things:

  • Your email address, exactly as you typed it.
  • The date and time you subscribed.
  • Where you signed up, meaning which page or form on this site you used.

Once you are on the list, the service that delivers our email records whether an issue was delivered, opened, and which links were clicked. We look at this mostly in aggregate, to see which items readers found useful and to notice when a send has gone wrong. We do not use it to build a profile of you; everyone gets the same issue.

When you visit alosave.com, the web server keeps ordinary access logs: your IP address, the page requested, the time, and your browser identifier. These are used only for security and to keep the site running.

If you write to contact@alosave.com, we keep the correspondence for as long as it is useful for answering you.

Why we use it and the legal basis

We use your email address for one purpose: to send you The Weekly Save, which is a marketing email, plus the occasional correction if something we published was wrong. The legal basis is your consent, given when you enter your address and press subscribe. You can withdraw it at any time, and doing so is as easy as giving it (see Unsubscribing).

We keep server logs on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and available. Short-lived technical logs, used for nothing else, do not intrude on you in any meaningful way.

We do not use your data for anything else, and we make no automated decisions about you.

How we send email

We do not run our own mail servers. A third-party email delivery provider stores the subscriber list and sends each issue on our behalf, as our processor under a written agreement. It may use your address only to deliver our email.

We send on Thursdays only. There are no daily sends, no extra mailings, and no re-sends to people who did not open the first one. Every email carries an unsubscribe link and our postal address in the footer.

How long we keep it

We keep your email address for as long as you are subscribed. When you unsubscribe, your address is removed from the active list immediately and deleted from the working list within 30 days.

One thing stays behind: a suppression record. This is your address, stored solely so that our system refuses to add it again by mistake, for example if someone re-enters it. It is the only reliable way to make sure we never email you after you have asked us to stop. If you would rather we removed even that, tell us and we will.

Server logs are rotated and deleted after 90 days.

Unsubscribing

The fastest way is the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any issue. It is one click, it takes effect immediately, and it does not ask you why.

If you would rather deal with a person, email contact@alosave.com with "unsubscribe" in the subject line. We handle these within two business days and reply to confirm.

Your rights

The GDPR gives you a set of rights over your data. In plain terms, you can ask us to:

  • Tell you what we hold about you (access).
  • Correct it if it is wrong, for example a mistyped address (rectification).
  • Delete it (erasure).
  • Hand it over in a common machine-readable format (portability).
  • Stop using it for marketing (objection). Unsubscribing does exactly this.

To exercise any of these, write to contact@alosave.com. We will answer within one month, usually much sooner. We may ask you to confirm the request from the subscribed address.

If you think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to the Portuguese supervisory authority, the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (CNPD), at cnpd.pt. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first, but you are not obliged to give it to us.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies of its own and runs no analytics. There is no tracking pixel, no consent banner, and nothing that follows you around afterwards.

The one outside connection is typography. The fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser requests them from Google's servers and Google sees your IP address when it does. Google describes how it treats that information in its privacy policy. If you block fonts.googleapis.com, the site remains readable in your system typeface.

Children

The Weekly Save is written for adults and is not aimed at anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect addresses from children. If you believe a child has subscribed, email contact@alosave.com and we will remove the address.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your data, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change is material, we will also say so in the next issue before it takes effect. We will not quietly widen what we do with your address.

Contact

Questions about this policy, requests about your data, or anything else: contact@alosave.com. A person reads every message.
